NBSC MAKES HISTORY AT THE 2ND RESEARCH AND EXTENSION SUMMIT AND PASIDUNGOG 2026
The Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) – Research Development and Innovation Division (RDID) in collaboration with the Community Extension Services Division (CESD) facilitated the conduct of the 2nd Research and Extension Summit and PASIDUNGOG 2026, a landmark celebration of research excellence, innovation, and service, held on April 21-22, 2026 at the NBSC Covered Court inspired with the theme, Advancing Knowledge, Empowering Communities: Building a Vibrant Research Culture and Inclusive Extension for Sustainable Futures.
What unfolded over those two days was a bold and collective declaration of who NBSC is, what its people are made of, and where the institution is headed.
The event opened on day 1 with the voices of the NBSC Chorale filling the hall, as College President Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, delivered the Opening Message, setting the tone for a summit built on purpose and passion.
The morning’s most anticipated moment came with the keynote address by Professor Juvy Lizette Gervacio, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning and Deputy Director for Learning Design of the University of the Philippines Open University. Speaking on the transformative rise of Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Gervacio challenged faculty and students alike to embrace AI with curiosity as a tool to strengthen research, reimagine teaching, and build more inclusive learning environments.
The afternoon carried that energy forward as student researchers took center stage for Poster and Paper Presentations, laying their work before the experts/evaluators, namely: Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement of Mindanao State University at Naawan, Engr. Arthur MB Quiblat, Member of the NBSC Board of Trustees and Consultant of the Manolo Fortich Chamber of Commerce Inc., and Ms. Jocelyn Tango-an, Supervising Science Research Specialist at the Department of Science and Technology Northern Mindanao.
Day 2 opened with institutional pride, as NBSC faculty and non-teaching personnel presented their completed research projects from 2024 and 2025, a powerful manifestation that the College truly lives by its mission to establish a vibrant research culture year after year.
The afternoon gave way to PASIDUNGOG 2026, NBSC’s signature celebration of Pioneering Achievements, Strengthening Innovation, Discoveries, Unity, Networks, Growth, and Outstanding Goals, and with it, one of the most moving moments of the entire summit.
In her Inspirational Message, President Ganiera, opened with a question that stilled the room: “What if I told you… that the future of our communities… is already gathered here today?”, she said.
She then drew the audience into a timeless parable of a young boy and a wise old man. From that story, the President stressed what became the rallying cry of PASIDUNGOG 2026, “Research is in our hands. Innovation is in our hands. The future of our communities is in our hands. And more importantly, It is in our hands… together”.
The afternoon also marked a milestone in institutional partnership, as NBSC and Central Mindanao University (CMU) formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), opening new pathways for joint research, shared expertise, and deeper regional impact.
The celebration was completed with the Recognition of Stakeholders, the Recognition of Researchers and Extensionists for 2024 and 2025, the Awarding of Certificates of Presentation, and the Awarding of Winners for Poster and Oral Presentation for the student category.

The College Administration, through the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Mr. John Kevin A. Artuz, extends its deepest gratitude to the RDID and CESD teams for their dedicated work in making the event a resounding success, led by their respective Division Directors, Dr. Mary Koren Witting-Acuesa of the Research Development and Innovation Division and Mr. Alven Gomez of the Community Extension Services Division.
